MARBLE CARVING AT AMBAJI
Marbles of Ambaji are famous nationally and are considered to be one of the best quality marbles consisting of 93% calcium and 3-4% iron and 3-4% other materials.
In Ambaji the main occupation is related to temple and marble. Most of the people there are engaged in Temple deeds and other market stuff related to the same. While other population is related to marble works which combines mining, cutting, carving, polishing and other menial works regarding the same.
It is believed that marble carving has been practiced in Ambaji even before the construction of the Delwada temple in 11-13th century. According the 71 year old elder of Ambaji belonging to Bhati Vansh Mogiya Vastar, stone carving in Ambaji was first done on soapstone. It was used to create khaldastas and roti chaklas.
