Philippines Sports Ministry Mission Trip

During our time in the Philippines we were able to provide the missionaries with several suitcases full of sports equipment. We used this equipment and other resources to do several sports ministry outreaches. Below are an overview of those ministries.
Basketball Ministry #1
During the first basketball ministry, five LBC basketball players were sent to work with a large group of younger kids running a basketball clinic. The students were provided with a game/drill book to help them prepare drills to use during this clinic. Each student got their own group of about 5-10 kids to work with. These students were then given the opportunity to teach biblical character truths to the kids based off what they observed.

Basketball Ministry #2
After Darrell's testimony we were each able to pray for a member of the opposite team.
Basketball Ministry #3
During our third basketball ministry, we traveled to a remote village on the island of Panay. This ministry was with another isolated Ati tribe. During this ministry we played an exhibition game with the men of the tribe. The rest of the tribe paused their day to watch. After the exhibition game, we ran some drills with the younger players to teach them some fundamental skills.
Teaching the Ati people some ball handling skills. Afterwards, Darrell was able to share his testimony with the Ati people.
Soccer Ministry #1
During our first beach soccer ministry, we were able to work with a small group of players. At frist only one or two players showed up so we played some small sided games with them. As more players showed up, we filtered them into the games. After playing a few games we ran some drills with the players. We worked on their first touch with some Brazilians. After this we hald a juggling contest with the players. I was able to then share the gospel through the wordless soccer ball. I also challenged them with the driving motivation behind why I play soccer, to bring glory to God.

The wordless ball I used to share the gospel. The wordless ball uses colors to explain the gospel message:
BLACK – Sin Romans 3:23 | All have sinned
RED – Blood I John 1:7 | Jesus’ blood covers all sin
WHITE – Pure Psalm 51:7 | Jesus washes away confessed sin
YELLOW – Heaven John 14:2 | Believe on Jesus and receive Eternal Life
GREEN – Grow 2 Peter 3:18 | Grow in the knowledge of the Lord

Soccer Ministry #2
During our second soccer ministry, we began by playing the children in small-sided games. After playing a few games, we began to run some drills and games with the players. We did some speed drills (plyometic drills), a finishing drill/competition, and another arial finishing drill. One of our players was able to share the gospel through his testimony at the end.
Finishing competition: 1 set shot, 1 volley, 1 header
Arial shooting drill, volleys and overhead kicks.
Games and Recreational Ministry
During our trip we were able to run some games with the children of the Ati tribes. We had to go into different villages, into the homes of the Ati people, and invite the kids to come to the church. This was an opportunity for us to do some games, which is a part of sports and recreational ministry. It also gave the HPE majors a chance to implement what they have learned. We did games such as Header/Hands, Red Light/Green Light, the Animal Game, and Tiver/Bank. After some games and songs, we were able to pray and the pastor of the church shared the gospel with the children.

Various Sports, Games, and Recreational Ministry
During our feeding site ministry, we had several opportunity to build relationships through sports and games. These helped us to break the ice so that we could share the gospel and Bible stories with the children. Below are pictures of various sports and game opportunities.

Construction and Feeding Site Ministries

Sports ministry was not our only focus during our time in the Philippines. We were also able to serve by providing food, Bible lessons, songs and dances, first aid, games, and crafts at the feeding site ministry. We were also able to help out in a construction project for a Christian school. We were able to mix and pour concrete, and move alot of debris out of the area. Some of our team members were able to teach some subjects at the school as well.
Sports Game/Drill Book
Below is an example of the game and drill book I prepared for the trip. Each sport had several drills and games for a varitey of skills and age levels. The book was about 50 pages worth of material.
