Screenprinting Process
Screenprinting (also called serigraphy) is a printing technique in which ink is applied directly to the surface to be printed (substrate). The image to be printed is direct or indirect transferred to a very fine fabric (the screen) such that the non-printing areas are blocked off and the fabric serves as a stencil. A screen is made of a piece of mesh stretched over a frame. The ink is wiped across the mesh (using squeegee) to pass through the unblocked pores and reach the substrate. For each color to be printed a separate screen is prepared and the process is repeated.
Atelier Anek "Island life" collection
Atelier Anek is a form of an artistic collaboration between illustrator Ana Žaja Petrak and designer Mario Petrak. The Atelier “Island Life” collection came about as an expression of colours, shapes, tastes and scents of a Dalmatian island bathed in the summer sun. The motives of sketches by pen are articulated in a form of collage. The stencils are created with a purpose that the elements of the illustrations can be mutually combined with each other. Even tho every phase was thoroughly planed, the approach to the printing process was more relaxed and spontaneous. The basic color palette which was defined has, through the process of printing, assimilated to every singular motive. The overlapping of shapes and elements, a shift of position or a change of stencil resulted in new relationships. In this way, the printing overcomes the pure “mechanical repetition” and becomes a part of a creative expression.
