singer-songwriter Darden Smith, the organization works to help ease the challenges in returning home.
The soldiers talk. The songwriters listen.
Together they work to create the music. To showcase this collaboration, and to underscore the ravages experienced by our veterans, we worked to create deconstructed weapons of war. We started with musical instruments, breaking them down to their parts, and redesigning them to reflect a new form. The guitar strings have been tangled and constricted to emulate the chaos of war in the form of a grenade. The rifle has been built of the woodwind and bass family of instruments to illustrate the dissonance between war and music.
