'HAUNT' 2019 group exhibition pieces

Work produced for 'HAUNT: A Halloween Exhibition" produced by West Art Collective x Antwerp Mansion, Manchester UK, 2019
(above) The Neon Demon, Oil on Canvas, 2019

This piece is an exploration of fear, the unease that comes with darkness and shadows. It also shows an example of the Gothic themes in my work.
(above) Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Beetlejuice, oil on canvas, 2019

This piece explores superstition and uses text and word play to investigate the rule of repeating a name three times in order to conjure a spirit.
(above) I'm gunna be a sexy witch for Halloween, black and white ink on red card, 2019

This piece is a simple illustration of a woman burning at the stake but the entire background of the piece is filled with the names of those who have lost their lives due to being labelled a witch. Most names are from the UK witch trials, as that is where the piece was being displayed, however there are a few global cases which I thought were important to add, including the women from the Salem trials and some contemporary cases which makes it clear that this is not a Halloween costume, this was and still is a label for the persecution of the vulnerable.
