A Window into the Bioluminescent Future

This personal project was inspired by a display on glowing plants at the Beasley Design of the Year Awards, Design Museum in London. The concept caught my imagination, but I found the visual examples to be underwhelming. I aimed to redesign the display to be more visually striking and informative.
To illustrate bioluminescent lighting, I designed a visual identity for the installation.
In this design, a plant replaces the tungsten wires inside a light bulb.
Screen-printed educational handouts and posters explain
in greater detail the science behind bioluminescence.
Fluorescent ink was used so the poster glows in UV lighting.
The installation uses a silhouetted city portrait to represent a window into the future, helping the viewers imagine a world lit by bioluminescent lighting. I achieved this effect with laser-cut plywood and green fluorescent paint behind the silhouettes.
The installation uses a silhouetted city portrait to represent a window into the bioluminescent future. The installation was displayed to the public at the Winter Gardens in Sheffield.
