Founded by entrepreneur Miles Duggal, We Planet Earth is a nonprofit that organizes fundraisers for international groups that have a positive impact on the planet. One of the organizations We Planet Earth supports is Medecins Sans Frontières (MSF). MSF dispenses medical aid where it is needed most around the world.
In early 2020, after an outbreak of the deadly coronavirus COVID-19, MSF has been sending critical medical protective equipment to heavily affected areas. As of mid-February, China was the epicenter of the virus.
MSF sent 3.5 tons of specialized medical protective equipment to Wuhan Jinyintan hospital in Hubei, China, to help medical professionals and frontline workers stay safe. Also, MSF has pledged another ton of medical equipment to Hong Kong St. John Ambulance to safeguard personnel transporting high-risk patients.
In addition to donating equipment, MSF is educating vulnerable groups and those likely to have no access to crucial medical information about the protective measures they should take to prevent transmission. MSF has held one-on-one sessions with refugees, street cleaners, the elderly, and the blind, giving evidence-backed medical information to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation.
