Al Nilin Mosque (the mosque of the two Niles) is one of the iconic Architectural landmarks in Sudan. It was originally designed by Mr Gamer Eldawla Eltahir, who was an architecture student at that time, as part of his graduation thesis. It was later selected by former president of Sudan Jaafar Al Nimeiri to be constructed opposite to the confluence of the two Niles in Khartoum.
The building has a very unique design with spacious prayer area that doesn’t contain any columns in the middle. The large Aluminum dome is only supported by the surrounding concrete structure. The mosque was completed in 1984 and the opening was attended by the famous boxing champion Mohammed Ali Clay.
