Bodoni Type Specimen Book

CONTEXT
This project consisted of creating a type specimen book for the typeface Bodoni. Bodoni was created in 1798 by Italian master printer and designer, Giambattista Bodoni. The typeface is known and widely used for its elegance and sophistication, so I created a concept that would effectively combine these aspects with a modern design. I was inspired by the art historical traditions of the time Bodoni was created, specifically the Rococo and Baroque periods as well as Giambattista Bodoni's reputation as the "king of printers and the printer of kings." I combined these artistic inspirations with Bodoni's original printing style as well as a modern style featuring large type and full bleed spreads to create an engaging and regal type specimen booklet.

This project pushed me to create a cohesive design that would engage the viewer without straying from the concept or established visual direction. I also learned how to take inspiration from another source and include it in my own work while updating, modernizing, and changing it to create my own visual language and style.
