Installations: Four Early Installations (2015)

Early Installations

An overview and documentation of my first four installation pieces following my move from video making to installation art.

Installation 1: The Relief (series of live installations)
A speaking painting, the relief is an image of a face on a wooden board. It is placed in public locations where people frequently walk past it, where to their surprise it speaks and is able to hold conversations with them via a hidden walkie-talkie installed in its mouth. I speak to the audience as the piece, prompting a variety of responses. Here is is being tested in the studio.
Installation 2: Relief in the Dark Space
A piece of footage showing the second incarnation of Relief, a projection on an object which speaks and interacts with its audience. Not really a finished work, but paved the way for further performances utilising my own body.
Installation 3: Machines of the Mil
November 2015. Video footage of my performance piece at the long abandoned Mill in Galgate, Lancaster. Heavily percussion based, this piece embodies the sounds and rhythms of the mill in its active days, and is the first usage of a plain morphsuit in my art.
Installation 4: Two Artworks Room
A piece of self-aware art listens to an artistic performance [machines of the mill, installation 3]. Tox Box faces the audience as all he can do is listen. It represents another method of animating a piece of sentient art. The spirit of the black drumming figure from the previous installation appears and beats percussion on Tox Box's head, which it doesn't like, and the two works compete with each other for the attention of the audience.
