Photo emulsion silkscreen printmaking

Printing using a silkscreen with photo emulsion is a technique used for accuracy and consistency, and it allows you to mass-produce.

Emulsion is a light sensitive chemical that allows you to make a permanent stencil of your design.

Marerials:
60 thread
Silkscreens
Textile ink
Photosensitive emulsion
Masking tape
Degreaser
Acetate

Supplies:
Squeegee
Wooden frame
Red or yellow light
Light Box
Hair dryer

PROCESS

Step: 1
Registrate your artwork, make the marks using tape framing where the screen will be positioned on the light table.

Step: 2
Prepare the photosensitive emulsion, on a dark room with a red light.

Step: 3
Coat the topside of the mesh screen with a layer of photosensitive emulsion.

Step: 4
Wait until the emulsion dries on the silkscreen, away from direct light and heat.
Expose the screen on a light box with the acetate, and place a piece of glass over the image to hold it tight against the screen and let the light source burn the screen.

Step: 5
Spray the screen with water to wash away the emulsion, do it until the image reveals the images. Let your silkscreen dry.
Step: 6
To print it, lay the screen on the substrate and pour the ink on it, use the squeegee to spread it, pull it towards you in a 45 degrees angle and push the ink through the mesh.

Step: 7
Carefully separate the cardboard where our design was revealed. make the folds, cut in the center and build your portfolio.

Step: 8
Finally clean the mesh once again, and let your print dry.
