CUBA, 2+2=5
This wonderful Caribbean island is, today, the result of a long, intense and rich cultural background. Cuban society –as it also happens with gastronomy, arts, religion and traditions- is the historical synthesis of the different populations, races and cultures that have participated in the island’s history. This ethnical richness is not only quantitative, but also qualitative; being a marvelous mixture that has created beautiful and open-minded human beings, that have equality as their flag.
Being a highly desired touristic destination for the whole world, nowadays, the country is –and has been, for many decades-, going through a difficult economical situation, derived from the political facts that have isolated the country internationally. This has severely affected Cuba, its potential development and its society. Nonetheless, despite the hard current scenario, Cubans have managed, as they have being doing for a long time, to overcome difficulties, to enjoy the life they have and to solve the everyday-life problems with imagination, ingenuity, hard work and optimism.
After the victory of the Cuban Revolution, the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, once said to his population, to try to take the most advantage out of the resources, to make the maximum out of the minimum, in other words, to make 5 out of 2+2. This motto, which can be seen written in many places in the streets of Havana, wisely synthesizes the current Cuban situation, so poor, so RICH.
