The Brecht Effect Poster

This is a poster designed for the play "The Brecht Effect" written about the life of communist play-write Bertolt Brecht. It incorporates traditional communist colors, minimalist shapes and fonts, and an image of the "internal security act of 1950" covering the mouth of Brecht, representing his struggle to speak truth through his work while hindered by the cultural bias against communism and the legal persecution they faced during the McCarthy Era.
Initially I tried to focus on what Brecht stood for and made a poster that emphasized his marxist beliefs.
Then I tried to focus on Brecht himself and the struggles he faced in America as a communist.
I refined the Tape on Mouth piece into the final product.
