The Hipsters in Disguise series was made to challenge the stereotype that all indigenous peoples of North America are 'connected' to the wilderness and nature. Through processes of colonialization and assimilation, native peoples of the Americas have been forced to give up their ways of life - often becoming less connected to their traditional lands in the process. These processes continue today in myriad ways, but this project was designed to call into question the cultural appropriation that is ever-present in today's 'trendsetting' community.
