Dia de los Muertos Digital Billboard
It isn't often I get to mix traditional media with digital billboards, but when the opportunity arises I tend to snatch it up quickly. This project was thought up and nearly completed on one of my lunch breaks. We always needed holiday filler artwork for our digital boards in the Southwest Region at Clear Channel Outdoor and for these, I enjoyed doing work you wouldn't normally see displayed on billboards. It was somewhat rushed, but luckily our general manager was a fan of the artwork I knocked out and ok'd its use for the entire next day, which was Dia de los Muertos.
Process shot. I enjoy doing hand lettering, and this project was partly completed over my lunch break.
Originally, my thought was to use this layout for the digital board. However, I felt the grassy background was a bit too distracting. Instead, this got used as the header for the CCO San Antonio Facebook page.
The final file. Watercolor brush lettering done on 95 lb watercolor paper using Winsor & Newton watercolors, with the pieces cut out and placed on a colored paper background, then formatted for a digital billboard.
