Wind Power Trends in Michigan

After a successful career in mortgage brokerage, Samuel “Sam” Raymer transitioned into the renewable energy sector as a land agent. As the owner and operator of Jett Marketing, Sam Raymer liaises with green energy manufacturers and Michigan landowners to develop large-scale renewable energy projects and wind farms.

As the de-facto capital of automotive manufacturing, Michigan is a natural hub for wind turbine companies. In response to reaching 2008 goals of generating 15 percent of the state’s energy consumption through renewable sources by 2021, Michigan’s wind farm industry has steadily gained traction.

Between 2008 and 2018, the state’s wind-generated capacity increased ten-fold to more than 1,900 megawatts, which can power nearly two million residences. Three additional wind farms are scheduled to start operations by 2020. In addition to reducing reliance on greenhouse gas-emitting energy sources, Michigan’s growing wind sector has boosted the economy. According to the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, the renewable energy sector was comprised of nearly 10,000 jobs in 2018.
