Project 2 - Stationary System

Jordan Darby Branding Project 2: Stationary System
Design brief
Design a wordmark to be used on your personal stationery set (letterhead, envelope, and business card). The solution should focus on typography and explore 5 typographic systems. The concept should reflect something about yourself based on key words: reliable, responsible, contemporary, etc.
Process/Sketches
I began learning the letterforms in my name by using Indesign to arrange the letters. This way I could look for any patterns and play off of them.
I then used tracing paper to sketch and re-sketch ideas. Using this method, I achieved a possible nameplate of my three initials, albeit more formal than my intended goal.
To land closer to my intended goal, I attempted designing an alternative logotype using https://glyphdrawing.club/ . Since I had spent some time sketching the letterforms of my name, using a this glyph editor to form the letterforms became more fluid.

As part of my ordinary process, I use this editor to brainstorm and edit my results in Illustrator. Some explorations are below. Though they do not look like letterforms just yet, they led me to possible situations where I could transform them int my intended letterforms. The third exploration below became my final and was made possible by the first 2 exploration.
Colors
I used a natural brown Kraft paper tone as my only color as it appears warm and inviting. It contrasts well with the printed black ink.

My final letter was printed on cloudy-clear vellum, which provides a unique touch, not to mention its unorthodox 6x9in size that will remain memorable to the receiver.

I used a code generated print for the inside of the envelope to add texture to the Kraft paper. (see under final spreads section)
Fonts
The fonts I used were Simplon Mono Regular and Simplon Mono Light
