Azerbaijan shares land borders with 5 countries: Turkey, Russia, Iran, Armenia, Georgia. Azerbaijan, located on the western edge of the Caspian Sea, sits at the crossroad between East and West.
Baku is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Baku is derived from the Persian name of the city Bād-kube, meaning "Wind-pounded city", bād meaning "wind" and kube meaning ‘pounding.’
Azerbaijan has an estimated population of 10.05 million, which makes it the 90th most populous country in the world.
 The currency is manat.  The currency code is AZN.
The primary and official language is Azerbaijani, Azeri, a Turkic language closely related to and partially mutually understandable with Modern Turkish.
The climate is slightly continental, with relatively cold winters and hot summers; it is also arid in most of the low-lying areas, while it is colder and generally wetter in the mountains.
Azerbaijan is one of the birthplaces of the oil industry. The petroleum industry produces about 873,260 barrels (138,837 m3) of oil per day and 29 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Azerbaijani traditional musical instruments are designed for emotional color, rhythm, tempo and artistic features of Azerbaijani traditional music. the best known are tar, gaval, kamanca.
Tea is the most popular drink. Traditionally served in a pear-shaped glass, the drink is often consumed through lumps of sugar or different kind of jam, held in the mouth.
