Self Portrait
For this project we were supposed to come up with a way to represent ourselves or choose a self portrait for a drawing.
As you can see I decided not to do a self portrait but instead chose to come up with an idea that I feel means something to and that is also in some sorts a representation of myself. I chose to still incorporate a part of myself (my hand) and use an app called Bazaart to add a butterfly.
The butterfly has a personal meaning to me and is why I chose to include it into my project.
The required materials that we were supposed to use for this project was a 15x20 inch hot press board and ink.

My materials
- 1 Cresent hot press illustration board 15x20
- A enlarged print out of my picture
- A Staedtler eraser
- An HB Staedtler pencil
- Sigma micron archival ink pens in a variety of tip sizes
I first started out with a very light sketch in pencil of the outlines to the picture and then did a faint outline with the 005 tip sized ink pen. From there I slowly started creating hatching lines to create contrast, value and definition to the hand with the 02 tip sized ink pen. For the detailing like the rings, butterfly and definition of the side of the fingers I used contour lines instead of hatching lines with the 05 tip sized ink pen. I simply just coloured in the star and the inside of the butterfly with the brush tipped ink pen.
The challenges and difficulties I faced while doing this project was making sure to use a light hand and not draw too dark because you cannot erase ink. I also had a little bit of a difficulty with the fingers, trying to position and proportion them properly. Although, I am very proud of the way it turned out and how it looked as the end result.
