This illustration was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent’s Moujik Love Series Moujik I, II, III were the names of his French bulldogs - every dog he owned was a new but different Moujik. I first discovered the Majorelle Gardens while I was traveling in Marrakech a few years back. I learned about how YSL and his partner purchased the gardens in the '80s, which also effectively saved the gardens- prior to execution of the city developers’ plans to bulldoze the area. The interior and surrounding structures were designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle in the '20s/30s. When YSL died his ashes were spread in the gardens.
