The Fetters of Fenrir

The book was designed with a chain theme in mind. The format is concertina which applies itself well to the concept and the layout is designed in such a way that the text and image weave in between one-another so as to resemble the patterns of ancient Scandinavia.

It was important for me to try and keep the work as analogue as possible. The final outcome was screen printed on 300gsm plike.
The layout above shows the six things used to make the chain. the first, the sound of a cat's footfall, and then, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, the sinews of a near, the breath of a fish and the spittle of a bird (used for making nests). The final acts depict the binding pact, where Tyr (a Norse god) had to place his hand inside the wolfs mouth in order for him to be bound, and Ragnarok, where all bonds are broken and Fenrir is freed and able to fulfill his destiny of killing Odin in the final battle.
