Looking at a ferry boat in Warnemuende, Germany, I thought by myself that there is a remarkable similarity between the boat itself and an aircraft carrier. So I started thinking about this idea...
In order to paint the light in Photoshop the way I wanted it I needed a photograph of the ferry without any direct sunlight. Around 9:30 pm (it was mid july) the light was perfect: No sun but still a bright sky, providing a nice, soft light.
Back in Berlin I started to look for an aircraft. I basically was up to a Eurofighter or maybe a MiG 29. But they were too big und looked too modern on the old ferryboat. So I came across this almost 70 year old Hawker Siddely Hunter F6, which looks like the proto type of all fighter jets.
In Photoshop I thought of a way to handle all the ship details on the port side. Finally I decided to simply put in a new main deck, then I reconstructed the port side of the ferrys hull. After positioning the plane I put together all the details, painted the lights on the boat and the plane and put shadows were I needed them. The guy - on a carrier he´s called "shooter" - is a character created with Adobe Fuse.
