Prepared: Strategies for Activists
Artist-in-Residence Project, 2012

The Spencer Museum of Art hosted a Bejing based artist Chen Shaoxiong for a month long residency which included a series of forums, workshops, and invited speakers. The contents of the exhibition unfolded over the course of the residency. The exhibition space included a chalk wall open for public expression and exterior, promotional banners. Two types of posters are also featured below. One programming poster and a series of promotional posters, which were made in collaboration with Michael Krueger, KU professor, and his printmaking class. These class posters were displayed as artwork within the exhibition as well as used for exhibition promotion around town.

protestor event
The front of the building quickly became a place for first amendment right expression after proper authorization. And our exhibition banners were unexpectedly incorporated into the display. They were cut into thirds, reversed, and used as a canvass to write, "Stop staring comrades. The spectacle is everywhere". Tent dwellings and hammockss sparkled the lawn in the midst of the University setting.
