Paul Rand - Design and the Play Instinct
The task was to design a layout that reflects Paul Rand's Article "Design and the Play Instinct". We were given constraints (such as use of color, content, font, and images) to work with. The pages were designed to emulate the content on the spread through its visual composition.

  Designers are set with constraints
Concept of play requires rules; uncertainty and irresolution creates
if the rules are broken
Design is systematic and constrained, but challenges people to creatively approach it as a game given the rules
Formal, but every page communicates with one another, through contrast and complement

Thin spread = one page
Color = simplicity; brighter spots create contrast
Communication = color contrast and thinner spread
Graphics = decode abstract concepts in a playful & creative manner vectorized for sharp resolution
Contrast & Mirror = to create consistency and communication between pages
