Rand’s designs were often done in a cartoon style using geometric shapes to create illustrations. That is where I got the idea to use construction paper to create the backgrounds and illustrations. I then chose to use on final element to represent the seasons; snow, rain, shooting stars and leaves; which would radiate from the top to the hexagon and fall down the sides.

 

In one of Rand’s books he had newspaper hats on some of his characters. I chose to expand on this theme and introduced a hat that would be seen in that time of year. In one of his designs he also used an abacus, so I decided to display each season in a hexagonal shape and place them on posts so they could spin.
