Choosing King cross hotel level 5 rooftop consider what gentrification shows here.

The rooftop is a co-working space which caters for different types of people who are there for different reasons. As Kings Cross progresses from a nightclub hotspot to a more gentrified residential area, a range of populations need to be accounted for from young partygoers visiting the few clubs left, to wealthy older people just looking for a place to meet during the day. In order to survive as a business Kings Cross Hotel has implemented objects in the space to create a co-working space for both these population. The more gentrified population are likely to use the space during the day for things like business meetings, a place to sit and read the news or to catch up with old friends. Objects in this space that can appeal to the gentrified population include the Socket Device which allows people to display presentations on the TV when holding business meetings and also keep their electronics charged. The rustic styled walls can bring about a “lived in” feeling which may appeal to older people who are more familiar with that setting.
During the night time is when most of the younger partygoers would be visiting the hotel as a space to socialize with friends, meet new people, drink alcohol and sing and dance. The rooftop terrace has objects to make the space more inviting to young people, such as the DJ turntables which turn the space into a vibrant, upbeat atmosphere as opposed to quiet and relaxed during the day. There are multi-coloured lights spread throughout the dance floor as well during the night to increase the energy in the space.
Many objects in the space appeal to both kings Cross’ present gentrified culture and former party culture, helping establish it as a functional co-working space. These include the Sofa, which can provide comfortable spots to rest when working during the day or between dances at night. Free Wi-Fi, which is appreciated by most people in Sydney regardless of age or wealth – Social media and “Cloud” storage has made internet access a high demand in many places.
The view from the terrace is appealing for most people as the iconic “Coca-Cola” Sign is visible and a popular place for photos.
The menu has a range of options to choose from that can cater for people with a range of tastes and differing financial situations.
Tables are used by students or workers to finish their work on and also people out socializing to rest their drinks or food on.
Posters throughout the space can be appreciated by people from different backgrounds and can provide a way for them to connect and create friendships.
Kings Cross also takes part in Vivid which attracts many people of different backgrounds to witness the transformation of different buildings and spaces into light-based art forms.
