After some research on the web, I believe this is a "Golden Orb Weaver".  Photo taken in the front yard of my home.
By far the largest spider I had ever seen in person, it was maybe about 2.5" long (including the legs). 

Milford Sound, New Zealand.

Some say Milford Sound is the 8th wonder of the world.  It truly is a very beautiful place.
