Squaring a circle (Illustrated book and game)

 squaring A circle
Book and game
FEBRUARY 2019
This is another project I did for Malota's subject during the course of Professional Illustration at ESAT University.
Squaring a circle is a surrealistic story about a guy trapped in a loop. I found to ways of keeping him in this loop. A book and a game. The book has 21 pages (20 + cover) and the game is a puzzle with 20 cards. Each card has to sides. Side A is for the story and side B is a Tamgram.

I used a simple illustration and different colours for each part of the story to make it easier to read and understand what is happening. I thought the story was weird enough to make a more complex illustration.
Book size (closed): 130 x 120 mm / 5,118 x 4,724 ".
Puzzle cards size: 80 x 80 mm / 3,150 x 3,150 ".
Technique: vector illustration. Prints in digital offset. Materica paper of 250 gr/m2 for the book and plastic-coated paper for the puzzle cards.
Squaring a round story. The book.
Un cuento redondo que te dejará cuadrado.

Squaring a round puzzle. The game.
Un juego redondo que te dejará cuadrado.
The game can be played in three different ways.
1. Jigsaw: figure out how the story goes.
2. Tangram: create forms and animals.
3. Memory game: use both sides and try to set the jigsaw by looking at the tangram side of each card and vice versa. You can also try to form the animals by looking at the side A of each card. Furthermore, you can try to group the cards by colour looking the side A of the cards.
Left: side A. Loop story.
Right: sibe B. Tangram.
Different jigsaw compositions.

Different animals you can form playing the Tangram.
