I determined early on that the "recycling junk" should be orange and rounded to help associate it with the color and form of a basketball. I also decided to pair it with blue as these complimentary colors work so well together. I chose to use a fairly bold color palette as I found this would provide good visual strength and would work well with the topic and style of my posters. As part of the design process, I took many photographs of various types of recyclable trash items, sorted through them, and then adjusted the best ones in Photoshop. Next, I created the basketball hoops and backboards in Illustrator and then combined them with the photographic trash, for an interesting and appealing look. I chose to use Egyptian Slate Std, for my typography design. It's well designed and presents a strong, bold statement, which I felt was well suited the style of my posters. I especially like the shape and placement of the letter "J" in this typeface because it adds such an interesting effect to the word, junk. I also wanted to include a grungy texture, so I ended up creating my own texture using Illustrator and a photograph of an old brick wall. I feel this was really the crowning touch to my poster designs.
