Kashmir is known as paradise on earth. Rivers served as lifeline for early people as the means of water, transport, irrigation etc. Early civilazations started in kashmir on the banks of rivers. people used to live in house boats or on the river banks. with the increase in population rivers started to suffer in many ways. Sand mining is one the main reasons of river degradation in kashmir. in 2014 a worst flood hit kashmir after decades thus resulting in huge damage of life and property. Sand mining effects the life inside the river, causes erosion of river banks thus posing threat to people living near river banks. i shot these series of pictures in kashmir around river Jhelum, which orginates from south Kashmir flowing to north kashmir and finally enters pakistan.
