Libenter Exhibition
MANTUA, ITALY, 2010
Located behind the most central square in the historic center of Mantua, it is an avant-garde establishment, where aperitifs and restaurants are served in a context of absolute design. Youthful but for all targets, it offers live music and DJ sets with high-level artists. An informal exhibition in which plexiglass was the master, taking on the most extravagant forms to celebrate some of the icons of the '900; the same colors chosen for the plexiglass slabs, recall the beginnings of the century in which for women and men clothes and accessories in black and white colors were all the rage. Famous movie characters such as Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock but also science icons such as Albert Einstein have assumed regular shapes on square plexiglass sheets, as if their faces were imprinted on Polaroid prints with a classic white outline. As if they came out of black and white films of the last century, the portrayed characters show their typical expressiveness although portrayed on plexiglass sheets; the embarrassment of Chaplin, the lucid madness of Jack Nicholson in the role of Joker and the frivolous carelessness of Mickey Mouse, take on shiny and plastic contours. The set-up studied with a basic theme that was well inserted in the colors and shapes of the venue that hosted the exhibition, was conceived with a simple inspiration, the result of an informal chat with the client who, seizing the opportunity to see each other creating works with a theme as dear as cinema, could only be surprised by the use of this technique which proposed paintings particularly suited to a heterogeneous public as well as an extremely informal environment.
