New Zealand Terrorism Attack

New Zealand Terrorism Attack
New Zealand has been placed second in the Global Peace Index with 1.192 points out of 163 countries. For the incident to happen in the second safest country, it really shocked the world and generally people around the world voice their disagreement condemning on the terrorism act. The incident happened at two Christchurch mosques, resulting 49 people killed and 48 seriously injured totaling 97 victims.

The incident started with terrorist broadcasting himself in his car and then opened the car boot. There were three rifles with all of them written the killer's name that once did involve in the massacre. Later he took the guns and walked casually into the mosque. A man from Pakistan welcomed the terrorist by saying Hello and he was fired at the door of the mosque. The terrorist entered the mosque and shot every single people that cross his eyes without hesitation. He then got into his car and moved to the second mosque. At the second mosque, the same thing happened. He officially arrested on the way to the third mosque, 36 minutes after the first emergency call. The reason why I did not say the terrorist name is as it is not even worth to mention.

The terrorist is an extremist, a right-wing violent terrorist who had been spread the hatred speech in his facebook profile. This happen due to Islamophobia and the fanaticism of White Supremacy. In Islam, we have been taught to love people regardless of their religion, race or skin colour. We Muslim should love and hate because of Allah and not solely hate someone just because we are different to each other. Allah says in Surah al-Hujurat verse 13 that “O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).” The difference between people should unite us. That only can be achieved by knowing each other.

Later the objectives to spread the hatred and intimidate Muslim went failed whereas the growth of Islam becomes more rapid since the incident. People mourn in unity and show their solidarity by wearing scarf, people guard Muslim when they are praying at mosque, listening attentively to khutbah. Public become more aware that the evil accusations on Islam are baseless and it just a made up. Since then, they show their interest to know more about Islam. Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern started her speech with salam and quotes Prophet Muhammad’s hadith, "The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy are just like one body. When any part of the body suffers, the whole body feels pain," in solidarity with Christchurch victims.

Although Christchurch incident definitely a disaster to the entire world, which not only felt by Muslim. It is a blessing in disguise where Islam is publicly accepted in New Zealand specifically. People openly display their support. This sure a blessing in disguise. Allah said in Quran in Surah al-Baqarah verse 232, “That is (the course Making for) most virtue and purity amongst you and Allah knows, and ye know not.” They can kill Muslims, but they can’t kill Islam. In fact, Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world despite nasty accusations that being spread on the daily basis.

Islam had made this clear that, Islam and terrorism are never walk in the same direction. In Quran Allah said in Surah al-Qalam verse 9, “Their desire is that you should be pliant: so would they be pliant.” Islam offers peace to the non-Muslim as long as they don’t display any kind of hatred and resentment. Therefore, Muslim and non-Muslim ought to work toward harmonious interaction that would benefit both parties and not letting some evil agendas to disintegrate their unity. The dawa’ not only can be delivered in speech, but also in how Muslim act. Any kind of good deeds can be considered as dawa’ such as smiles, greeting, have concerned on neighbours and other normal kind of actions. The beauty of Islam will be obvious through gentle actions and speech. This is how Rasulullah did dawa’ and attract non-Muslim to embrace Islam.
