3D tree I made for Kindergarten for DARE week.  We used their handprints for the leaves.  It says "FALL into Healthy Living," but it could've just as easily said "We leave drugs be!"
My 1st grade class gave oral reports on an animal from the rainforest.  I taught a thematic unit on rainforest animals focusing on Asia because we had a student who was from Indonesia.  We explored Asia through a Power Point presentation of photos to build knowledge and the student's mother came in to talk about her country.  We had so much fun with this unit!
I set up a market and we played store for real world mathematics.
The market was so popular, it had to become part of centers!
Hat Day for DARE week!  Every morning I'd begin reading with recall then introduce new materials before moving into rotating reading groups, which combined reading, writing, fluency, phonics, and art.
Kids love Nanny McPhee warts and all!
My students charted whether I was having a boy or a girl before I left for the ultrasound....it was a boy!
Thanksgiving is the best time of year for thematic units!
We made pottery while learning about Native American culture as well as science.  Making colorful necklaces also taught them patterns while counting.
Students made their own props and costumes.  Some wanted to be Native Americans and some wanted to be pilgrims, while others just wanted to be a sailor hence the bag tied to his head.
Students enjoyed a popcorn "feast" after the play for snack and a big dinner for lunch.
Every year students go to Silvermont in Brevard, NC to vote for their favorite tree.  One student who didn't believe in Santa exclaimed after meeting this realistic guy "I do believe in Santa, I do now!"
Caroling at the Koala Day Care!  There were tears in their eyes as they watched the children sing.
Gingerbread houses galore at Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC!  This show is massive!
