PROTEST

Today women get confronted with being only ‘looked-at’. I’m really concerned about the way men in high positions like Trump treat women which you can see in his twitter posts: “Can you imagine that, the face of our next next President? I mean, she‘s a woman, and I‘m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?” He judges women based only on their appearance.
This was a main inspiration for my work I created during a Print Club Session with the Topic “PROTEST“. I made a collage which I riso-printed afterwards where I was rebelling about sexism in our digital age and women rights.

By showing a woman without her mouth I want to symbolize that in some countries women don’t even have the right to say something for example when it comes to arranged marriage or female circumcision. The fact that I teared it out intensifies the meaning. Talking about sexism I want to show that a womans word isn’t always taken seriously and that they get judged based only on their appearance.
The mouths coming out of Alexa shall represent the different expectations, judgements and opinions people have of women nowadays. As we live in the digital age, a lot of them - like Trumps tweets - can be found in the internet which is why I used Alexa as the
main source.
