DMC Electric DeLorean Time Machine Interface
The newly christened DeLorean Motor Company took a classic car and adapted it for the new millennium with the all-electric model DeLorean. Part of this new model includes an iPhone connection port for music and app interfacing.
‘Back to the Future’ is one of my all-time favorite movies, and with the arrival of this new electric Delorean, I thought of how the electric model could play into the universe of the film(s). With that in mind, I thought a contemporary approach would be to make an iPhone app that would not only act as the controls for the time-traveling portion of the car, but serve as a ‘security key’ for the car (i.e. the car would time travel without the phone connected). I elected to design this app with great reference to the controls seen in the original movies, giving the app a traditional skeuomorph type aesthetic.
