Paper Doll Family Portrait

Paper Doll Family Portrait
This was a personal project gifted to the organizer of the 1st Annual Morrissey Mobile Disco Ride—a part of Portland, Oregon’s Pedalpalooza events. I refer to this as a “family portrait” because it features (along with the organizer) her partner and sister. Using photos taken during the event, I styled the dolls as closely as I could to the participants. Assembled, images were placed against a reproduced photo of the Salford Lads Club, as an homage to Stephen Wright’s original and iconic shot of the Smiths outside Salford Lads Club.
Instructions to attendees (over 100 strong) advised, “Come sporting pompadours and glasses, your best-looking suit, or British attire of any era (Victorian to Mod to Punk)… Gladiolus, books on Oscar Wilde, and self deprecation encouraged.” Dolls were constructed with bristol board, “dressed” in watercolors and ink, and bejeweled with tiny metal brads. Each doll measures approximately 8 inches tall.
