SURPRISE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Turning stimuli from one sense into stimuli for another sense.

These abstractions are sketches from a short audio clip at a best friend's surprise 21st birthday party.

I played around with ideas of both tension and elation. The audio clip showed initial hushed tones, silence, and bursts of energy.
The final cultivation of the 5 previous studies. I focused on the idea of building tension and suspense before the surprise through jarring sharp points. This tension is then relieved through rounded, light bubbles drawing the eye upward. The stroke of the bubbles gets lighter as they float away from the viewer and into the page, showing relief and happiness.
