MAK lubricants - container design

Participated in a team of three - Myself , Tigmanshu Bhatnagar and Akash  Harlalka

Description:
The project was a part of a competition organised by MAK lubricants
The objective was to design a container for storage of lubricants.
We were supposed to submit the 3d renderings of the design along with all the manufacturing requirements like final volume , weight of the container and molding requirements

Work:
Sketching and ideation of the basic form,
Ideation of the pouring system to avoid gurgling
rendering on the solid works software

Making the presentation

Duration : ongoing project

round 1 submission done
result awaited
The overall visual appeal of the product draws some heavy inspiration from ‘Cheetah’. This includes the colour scheme of the parts as well as some shapes and forms of the container.
The contour at the back and neck of the container derive take cues from the curvy back of a pouncing cheetah. The grip on the left seeks resemblance from cheetah’s claws and provides a rich hold and feel. The Oil flow from the container will be smooth since it has no sharp edges at the neck. This promises lesser spills and deters abrupt flows.
Separate and wide sticker areas ensure a superb branding, thus creating every possibility of the product becoming attractive to the customers. The Empty space has been designed in such a way that it doesn’t cover the instruction panel while holding
A classy front end of the container bears the name of the company “MAK” and adds such a value and style to its brand .The smooth curve guarantees streamlined liquid flow. The users and workers would love the upright position of the handle, as it would help them in both storing and handling of the product.
Form derived from the most robust and hard to tire part of the vehicle, its tyre. The serrations which give a tyre like effect also act as indicators for the oil level.Robust handling and thick features gives it a very distinctive feel and look. Good grip is essential for heavy containers and twheel just adds to the purpose. The front end is straight; hence liquid has a laminar surface to flow on. To avoid guggling, there is an air pocket.
A futuristic model, neat clean and classy. Easy to manufacture using blow moulding. A flat top assists in improved efficiency of stacking and caters rough handling too.

The form is inspired from a race helmet, as the front is its visor. This can also be used for branding purposes. The streamline channel of the design eases the flow of the liquid out of the neck which can take a torque support from the neck of the engine oil barrel.

The intuitive form universalises the design features for all category of users. The minimalism in its design is perhaps good for its stack ability functions and rough use.
