Outdoor Oddity Magazine

Research:
Step 1: Market Research: My team created a survey and analyzed the results to better understand the interests of our target market.
Step 2: Began on Pinterest by pinning anything that I considered relevant to the outdoors that could influence the design of our publication - color palettes, typography, layout designs, etc.
Research:
Step 3: Create a mood board. This is a tangible piece (poster board, sharpies) that will direct me in the magazine layout and design.
The Final Design
All of the content in this magazine was produced by our group
No stock photography was used, and all articles were written by a member of the group.
These two columns discuss places to hike in the Central Virginia area (left) and tips and tricks for camping (right). I was responsible for designing the layout. "Take A Hike!" was written by Brian Salamanca. "Camping for Dummies" was written by Laurel Atwood.
This spread was written and designed by me. It discusses First Aid supplies that you should keep handy while braving the outdoors. I was excited to use my light cube to take photographs of the First Aid products.
This column is an interview of funny stories and mishaps from an experienced camper. I was responsible for the layout and illustration. The interview was written by Brian Salamanca. If I could do this project again, I would re-do the illustration. I feel that the "comic" style that I was going for did not work out.
My personal favorite: How to pack a backpack for an overnight hiking trip. Huge thanks to my roommate, Beth, for lending me all of her hiking equipment! I had fun creating this infographic and writing the captions. Photography by Maddie Essex.
