Project: design a book for Paul Rand's Design and the Play Instinct

From choosing the font size and leading to personally binding the pages, this project was very hands-on. Pushing forward with this project, my main goals were for legibility and clarity, thus creating a balance of distinguishing elements – so they stand on their own – yet still having a connection to one another. For instance, the header, consisting of the book's title and sometimes a colored bar, can either stand alone due do the whitespace surrounding it, or it can correlate with the page number through color and text size. The page number's design might seem irrelevant to the book, but it's taken from one of the images (see page 20 in book), consequently creating another connection to the content of the book. Creating these subtle visual connections produced a constant visual flow that would allow an easy read.
