Jeddah heritage / dome projection 360

INTRODUCTION

Historic Jeddah Festival is considered first of its kind in the city of Jeddah. It recalls the past of both the place and its population, in a period of time through which the Bride of the Red Sea (Jeddah city) had passed over more than half a century ago. Motionbrothers team was invited to create the dome projection content for one of the festival's activity areas. The stage of the event was a dome with a diameter of 30 meters, filled with a projection in 4K resolution. Our task was to create a 5-minute Intro video that immerses the audience in the atmosphere of the history of Jeddah, shows what has been achieved and reveals plans for the future.

PRODUCTION / STILLS

First, we had to take the audience out of the context of the atmosphere of the event’s Protocol part. The show begins with the fact that the perimeter of the dome becomes a giant time machine that takes viewers to the distant past.

Once on the seabed viewers fall into the maelstrom of time and events that takes them to the origins of the history of the city.

Historically, the main impetus for the development of the city was a good location on the coast. Formed as a fishing village, Jeddah soon grew into a large city and became the starting point for caravans on the way to the Holy city of Mecca.

The city quickly grew rich and became an attractive target for foreign invaders. It was just a matter of time that Portuguese squadrons tried to attack the city from the sea.

Citizens of Jeddah managed to finish construction of a fortress wall  at the very last moment. It made the city invulnerable to ship’s cannons.

However, truly great times were yet to come. King Abdulaziz came to power and transformed the country's economy.

His politics led his country to rapid industrial and, as a consequence, economic development and growth.
