Hannya is a wooden vessel loosely inspired by a standard character in Japanese Noh theater. A female form harboring a horned demon of jealousy. This was made for a show curated by Michael Hosaluk in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan entitled: DECOY.

 

This surface was produced over the course of 3 weeks with countless layers of carving, beeswax, shellac, fire, pigments and sanding.

 

Materials used:

Unseasoned birch, beeswax, shellac, dry pigments, milk paint, microcrystalline wax, acrylic.
