Fear is one of our most powerful emotions.
Fear can ground us and keep us safe or completely consume us until it forms an inescapable cloud.  Fear, isolation, and nature where three major themes I decided to address in my work.  While I grew older I found more and more fears begin to attach themselves to me, and the only place I felt completely at ease was in the outdoors, more specifically at summer camp.  A place where I was completely vulnerable to almost everything around me, yet my mind was entirely at rest.  Despite all my struggles I faced as I grew older I was able to remind myself of the way I felt away at camp.  My work was made to make the viewer feel a sense of isolation yet also tranquility.  While the outdoors may be peaceful to many of us there are still fears that we might not be able to escape perhaps hiding right inside our minds.  I was inspired heavily by “Linge Claire” style of illustration which has been used in comics where instead of blending paint, different values are stacked to create depth.  I also drew inspiration from the rise of interest in dated camping and outdoor media.  A specific film that brought me back to my camping days was Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom.”
