ISTD — Perspective

ISTD submissionPerspective
For this project, I was asked to trace the history and etymology of a word of my choice. I chose to use the word 'perspective' as the basis of my research. I took a systematic, scientific approach to designing the content and each component of my design reflects that. My submission comprised of three components, all held within an opaque box. The first component to be read is a series of eleven two-sided pages designed to show a balance of typographic rigour and play. On one side of each page is a large letter and on the other side is content tracing the history and science of perspective. When stood upright as three dimensional structures, the eleven letters spell out the word perspective and using the folds I have created in my design, each letter appears to be either receding into the distance or advancing into the foreground, creating the illusion of perspective within the word itself. The second component is an image booklet tracking my process. It contains a section with inserted acetates that are designed as an interactive component of the booklet to give the reader a chance to read through the eyes of another; to see it from their perspective. The final component of this submission is a series of folded down posters created to document the eleven letters standing up as I intended them to be displayed.
