Grayscale painting

This was actually a study that I started to learn more about lighting, gray scaling.
But I began adding more and more detail to the piece, until the finished result that you see on the right. It took me about a week to finish, purely because I re-painted it over and over again.

The reference photo I used was nicely lit, but I closely inspected it further and I saw that multiple light sources were used instead of one. So in order to create the image I had in mind I used only one light source and that was from the window. Resulting in a darker yet contrasting painting.

First I sketched the body and placed it on an interesting spot, I did the some for the background. I began fleshing out the hands, lingerie and hair. I sketched longer hair for a more flow like feel.
And then, I began painting in photoshop, I began with the background first. I used a technique I learned from school, you need to start with the darkest colour and then paint lighter every time to create lighter areas.
Up next was the body, I used the same technique as the one for the background. This took me longer than expected because I wanted to paint a more realistic shading.

After a while, when I thought I was done, I began editing it with the curve adjustment tool. Before continuing on, I asked feedback so I could do some more re-painting.
And at last, I finish with the last picture below.
Thank you for reading and watching!
