Another one-man-team Adobe Aftereffects animation that I have made for one of my university's term projects.

The objective of this individual project is to create a quality short animated film with an impactful story or message.

Work duration is approximately 4 months.

***I had to leave out a few small animation details due to time constraints. For example, the automatic cycling action of the rifles and pistol and the ejected shell casings that should be there to name a few. Since it's my first time trying my hand out at some crude frame by frame animation, i had to come up with a new coloring style with flat shading to simplify the animation process. Pretty satisfied with the overall results.

Story: The Executioner

Plot Summary: 
A civil servant working for a military dictatorship is faced with a moral dilemma when he found his family held hostage and himself forced by his government to work as an overseer for one of the country's death camps where rebels and political dissidents go to die without trial. As he reluctantly accepts his new position, his imminent doom looms over him.

Message of the story:
"An excessive sense of justice without appropriate restraints could prove vain and self-destructive."

***That was the message of the story, although it could be interpreted in many ways from different perspectives. Although It's not as epic-esque and grandiose as my last work with time traveling vengeful genetically engineered Nazi supermen, I hope everyone would be able to get something out of it.

I drew and animated everything myself. Fixed the timing a tiny bit but the animation may still get a bit choppy at times.

This is a very crude and simple Adobe Aftereffects animation I did as my university's midterm project. This is meant to be a trailer for an original story I am writing. I have based its style on anime "pre-trailers" that are trailers that come out very early before the anime's release. That would be before there are any available footage of animation so the studio uses still images with very minimal animation instead.

Music and audio used:

This video contains Nazi and German WW2 militaristic imagery. Please note that I mean no offense in any way. (Some characters are based on real people.)

Plot:
Erich is a 10 year old German boy whose parents were Nazi war criminals who conducted genetical experiments on humans. They fled to Vietnam and were eventually trapped in the middle of the events of the Vietnam war. After a series of events, Erich, his older brother Alfred, and their friend and crush, a little Vietnamese girl named Anh Thuy(Ang Thu-yhi) were drafted into one of the North Vietnamese Army's Patriotic Youth Brigades. With Anh severely injured during a battle, Alfred, out of his love for her, is forced to make an accord with a mysterious supernatural force that appeared before him. However, due to the circumstances resulting from the deal, he was forced to sell out his parents and younger brother, Erich to the US forces which thorough a series of following events, led to the annihilation of his whole brigade. He saved Anh, took her with him, and took asylum with the US forces. Erich was then captured by the Americans. 

Erich, with the fate of his parents and Anh still unknown to him, was then taken to the US's "Unit 525." The US's top secret unit based in "Area 51" that recruits ex-Nazi scientists to secretly conduct several inhumane and brutal experiments on humans. This was all to find a way to activate a mysterious bell-shaped device captured from the Nazis by the US after the War. This device, nicknamed the "Bell" should allow its user to manipulate the laws of physics and grant the user the ability to "create something from nothing." However, it operates like a computer and needs an operating system which is a human's "consciousness." The catch is that not every human would be compatible with the Bell. However, Erich, out of the millions of human test-subjects Unit 525 has in possession, happens to be that one and only compatible human due to prior genetic modifications that his parents have done on him beforehand without his knowledge. Even if they were to die, their research would still live on within Erich. Upon the researches of Unit 525 discovering this, Erich quickly becomes a priceless asset to them. 

Eventually, with Area 51 gaining more attention from the American public, Unit 525, fearing information leaks to the public which could make their unethical human experiments known to the world, is forced to power up their Bell device temporarily at the cost of over a million of their human-guniea pigs' lives and travel back in time to an alternative universe Pre-World War 2 Nazi Germany and collaborate with a secret faction of that universe's Nazis to secretly continue their research, taking Erich along with them. Alfred, now an officer in Unit 525 took Anh who is still unaware of Erich's fate with him. 

In this alternate universe they have arrived in, there are a few historical differences from that of our timeline's. Germany, after World War 1, is divided and occupied. The West is occupied by France and the East by the newly-formed Soviet Union. After the two Germanys have gained their independence in the early 1930s, The East became a country similar to Nazi Germany as we know it. That was where Unit 525 is now relocated to. The West became the Federal Republic of Germany, a democracy with some problems which would later affect the story. 

Erich endured years of torture and merciless experiments constantly done on his body, designed to keep him barely alive after each attempt. He eventually managed to escape Unit 525 at 15 years old and fled to West Germany. A few years later, now 18 years old, he joined the West German Army and swore brutal and merciless revenge on Unit 525, Nazi Germany, and his brother, Alfred for all of the suffering and ruin they have brought upon his life. Meanwhile, Anh, now with a new name, Marei Heinemann is sent to West Germany as a spy. Additionally, with tensions between the Republic of Germany and Nazi Germany rising, World War 2 seems inevitable. This vengeful epic has just begun.

(Some scenes are riddled with historical inaccuracies due to the rushed work in the early storyboarding stages. Sorry, history buffs.)
