I partly grew up in a rural town in Illinois. There wasn't much to do, so I spent my evenings walking. Often, instead of stars, there was a purple haze that dominated the sky. Even hours from Chicago, light pollution was strong.
I wanted to study a master artist's painting. But my experience was so different than Van Gogh's that I had to make a significant change. So I did my best to rip the beauty out of the piece.
