The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbour, New York City. The sculpture which was built from copper and was issued as a gift to the people of United States from the people of France. The statue was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor. The Statue of Liberty features a female figure in a robe also known as Lady Liberty. The statue was first displayed at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Although it has not been open to the public since 1916, there is actually a small balcony surrounding the torch at the top of the statue.
