To Do To Be | Design Studio IV
I spent my spring semester working on a project for social good for my Design Studio IV. I picked a topic that I found particularly important in today's society and political climate and worked to find a solution through design. I chose issue of teen pregnancy and contraceptive use with the goal in mind of how to encourage young teens and adults to make smart, informed decisions regarding their reproductive choices. In the United States, 75% of teen pregnancies are unplanned and 30% of those pregnancies are terminated. I researched not only statistics and demographics, but contraceptives and how they work. Additionally, I wanted to find a way to create dialogues on contraceptive use. This involved conducting surveys and interviews, asking people to share their experiences with different methods of birth control.
I decided to call my campaign "To Do To Be" in order to play off of the action of making informed contraceptive decisions and the effect it can have on one's life. Women who use contraceptives are more likely to have better educational and economic opportunities throughout their lives. At the end of the semester, I had produced the following components: branding for the campaign, a book with all of my research and branding materials, a website, animation, social media profiles, and other small printed items.
