Senior Capstone - Strokes in Children & Teens

Strokes can happen at any age, not just in older adults. For example, strokes occur in 4,000 infants, from birth to age 18, there are 11 strokes in every 100,000 children and teens, and between 20% and 40% of children die after a stroke. Also, about 3,000 children and young adults had a stroke in the United States in 2004. Strokes in children and teens between these ages are rapidly increasing largely due to the high blood pressure from obesity. Although this is usually the main cause, some of the strokes in children could not find a reason as to why this has happened.
